meMy name is Boyan and I work as a software architect at a pension fund in the lovely city of Copenhagen, Denmark. I work with a highly motivated team and together we aim to transform the organization from being purely operational into embracing the changes in our dynamic world and becoming developmental. My passion is to use information technology as a tool to solve everyday problems and I am very happy to be able to do it. I have been working in the consultancy sector on projects from different branches: insurance, housing administration, on-line commodity trading, ferry transport.

Besides my work I perform improvised theater (also known as improv) with a group, called ImproKlinikken (The Improv Clinic) in Copenhagen. I have been doing this for more than 2 years now. Improv has taught me a lot about reacting to the unknown. Moreover, it gives you a whole new way of thinking and looking at the surrounding world. I often do workshops to teach how improv techniques can help build better (Agile) teams.

Writing to this blog is one of my hobbies. Although I don’t do it that often, I try to keep it updated with all the challenges and cool stuff I encounter. I also used to write articles for other online magazines, like Silverlight Show, when I was a big fan of Silverlight (this got transformed into HTML5 and JavaScript later). My favorite topics are related to web and mobile development, software architecture and design, best practices and processes. I am interested in the entire software development pipeline – specifications, design and architecture, development, testing and integration.

Many people consider software development as non-creative, but I am trying to prove the opposite. When you work on a project it is really important what you bring into it and how you solve all the issues that come along. Putting pieces together under some constraints is a creative activity. Creativity is really important nowadays as it is the only way people can distinguish you from the others. So here you can read my creative (or not that much) solutions to different problems I have stuck upon.

Say hey

I would be very happy to talk to you and to get to know you better, so do not hesitate to say hey [at] boyan.io 🙂

A bit of history

I was born in a small but really beautiful town, called Vidin, situated on the bank of the big European river Danube, in a small but colorful country – Bulgaria. Vidin, Bulgaria I hold a bachelor’s degree in Software engineering from the University of Sofia, Bulgaria and a master’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Copenhagen, Denmark. My journey in the IT sector started back in 2000 when instead of getting prepared for an important exam, I was fascinated by building web pages.

I have been working in the IT sector since I started the university. Before that I have been working as a freelancer and have participated in many national and international IT contests during my school years. When I finished my bachelor I decided to move to Copenhagen, Denmark. I wanted to explore a new culture, meet new people, get fresh ideas. And I did it. I spent 3 fantastic years at a small IT company, called Ebita, where being part of a great team we have been working on interesting projects for some of the biggest companies in the Nordic region. I learned a lot from my colleagues. Now I am working in a small pension fund, called MP Pension, where we have the mission to provide our members a modern look at their pension experience.
